How Often Should a Small Business Post on Social Media?
"How often should I post?" is the question we hear most. The honest answer: less than you think, more consistently than you're doing now.
Consistency beats volume
Three good posts a week, every week, will outperform ten posts one week and silence for a month. Algorithms reward regular activity — and so do customers, who read an abandoned page as an abandoned business.
A realistic rhythm
- 2–3 feed posts per week — your work, your results, your people
- Stories a few times a week — behind the scenes, quick updates, no polish needed
- 1 post a month that sells — an offer, a package, a clear call to action
That's it. That schedule is achievable for a busy owner and enough to stay visible.
What to actually post
The posts that work for small businesses are almost boringly simple:
- Before and after shots of your work
- A customer win or kind review
- You or your team doing the job
- A straight answer to a question customers always ask
Batch it
Set aside one hour a fortnight. Take photos on jobs as you go, then schedule everything in one sitting. Social media should be a system, not a daily chore.
And if even that hour isn't happening? That's exactly the kind of thing worth handing to someone else — it's cheaper than being invisible.
