5 Signs Your Website Is Costing You Customers

5 Signs Your Website Is Costing You Customers

Your website is often the first — and only — chance you get with a potential customer. If any of these five things are true, there's a good chance people are leaving before they ever contact you.

1. It's slow on a phone

More than half of your visitors are on mobile. If your site takes more than a few seconds to load, a big chunk of them are gone. Oversized images and clunky page builders are the usual culprits.

2. There's no obvious next step

Every page should answer one question: what do you want the visitor to do? Call, enquire, book. If your contact details are buried in a footer, you're making people work to give you money.

3. It doesn't say what you do in five seconds

Visitors skim. If your homepage opens with vague slogans instead of plainly stating what you do, who for and where, people bounce. Clear beats clever.

4. The content is stale

A blog that stopped in 2022, last year's prices, a closed-down location still listed — stale content tells customers nobody's home.

5. It doesn't match how your business actually looks

If your site looks dated but your work is excellent, customers judge you on the site. Fair? No. Real? Absolutely.

The fix

You don't need a huge website. You need a fast, clear one with a strong call to action on every page. For most small businesses, a well-built one-pager outperforms a bloated ten-page site every time.
